Issue 01, Year 2010 HAPPY NEW YEAE QUESTIONS FOR CHRISTIAN Let's start the New Year off with a renewing of our vows to our Lord. As the New Year begins, consider these questions: 1. How faithful was your church attendance this past year? 2. What were your happiest Christian experiences? 3. Do you feel that serving Christ is worth the effort? 4. Have you served others to the degree that you have been served through the years? 5. Do you believe everyone has a share in the Lord's work? 6. Do you place the Lord's favor above personal satisfaction? 7. Do you seek God's will for your life in daily prayer and meditation? 8. Will you use your God-given talent by volunteering to serve where needed in our church's ministry? Will you pray faithfully that the Lord will call you and others to find a place of service in our church? 10. Will you pray faithfully for our pastor and staff as they seek God's wisdom in leading our church? Now that you have answered these questions, would you be willing to make some of these New Resolutions? During the year I resolve to: Honor God's desires above my own. Live for Christ in the world. Trust God with a strong faith. Remain faithful to my church. Witness to the lost. Cultivate whatever talents God has given me for His glory and His church. Let's make 2010 a better year than 2009. A Word from the PastorGet on your Mark! Get Set! Go! Those words are all too familiar to begin a foot race. They could be recited at the beginning of a new year as well. By the time you receive this, a new year is well under way and the journey is moving on in January. Hebrews 12:3 gives us the picture of a race. As Christians we are in a race-not with each other-but to be winners in our faithfulness to Christ. In this verse we are encouraged to lay aside any weight that might hold us back from winning. He instructs us to keep focused on Jesus, for He is our example of faithfulness. The writer also calls us to be consistent, unwavering in our faith so that we might finish strong for Christ. So, my encouragement to you is to run with faithful consistency this year. Keep your eyes on Jesus, and be committed to finishing your race well. My prayer for you is that God will reward your faith with many spiritual blessings as you get on your mark, get set, and go with God in 2010. Danny Don's Dabblings All teams participated in our December CARE night writing 29 notes and cards, making 2 calls, praying for 44 individuals, and making 5 personal visits. Our January schedule for our CARE ministry is as follows: January 12 "C & A" teams January 26 "R & E" teams Let me challenge all CARE team members to be active in 2010. Let me also encourage those who are not a part of our CARE ministry to become involved in a ministry that reaches out to so many. On December 27th while preparing to leave for our family Christmas gathering, I tuned into the worship service at FBC Spartanburg. Dr. Wilton was preaching from Acts 2 spotlighting the sermon preached by the Apostle Peter. Within that sermon, Dr. Wilton listed seven foundational truths to be embraced for the new year. STAND UP and listen STICK TO God's word FOCUS ON Jesus and Him crucified CELEBRATE Jesus as Lord RESPOND WITH a repentant heart ANTICIPATE all God will do for you Our Shut-in for the week beginning Sunday, January 10 is Melvin Morris, 123 Blue Trail, Taylors, SC 29687 Our Shut-in for the week beginning Sunday, January 17 is Dora Lou Reece, 123 Cottage Dr, Greer, SC 29650 Love in Christ, Don Michael's Youth and Children News I hope everybody had a blessed Christmas and a Happy New Year. I am honored and blessed that the Lord has allowed me to be a minister and servant to the people of Pleasant Grove, especially the children and youth in 2009. I am continually humbled and amazed that God would use me the frailest of creatures to proclaim the greatest truth in the entire universe, that God so loved us that He sent His only Son to die for our sins. Again, thank you for allowing me to be your minister this past year; I am eagerly looking forward to what God has in store for these ministries in 2010. I will be sending out a news letter sometime this month to sum up what the children and youth did last year and what we are planning this new year. Important Dates for January Sunday January 17th Brief meeting after morning worship for parents of youth that will be attending Meltdown. Please meet in the choir room.
