A Word from the PastorPastor's Words Last Sunday morning I began a series of messages that deal with the subject of Encouragement. This series will continue for the next few weeks. The expected goal is to help us learn the importance of encouragement in the lives of other people. Encouragement is a spiritual gift that we can use to bless others. In order for the topic of encouragement to be more than my preaching to you, I am asking you to be a vital part of the process of an encouragement ministry. I am taking thirteen suggestions from the book The Love Dare and changing the writing to fit our church family. Each week for the next thirteen weeks you will be invited to include yourself in the ministry of encouragement to someone in our church. For example the week beginning June 21-27, you can encourage someone by doing at least one unexpected gesture of kindness to someone in the church. That is our first task of growing in encouragement. In order to grow in this exercise, you can do two things. (1) Show your act of encouragement to someone who is outside your circle of friends, (2) someone outside the church family, outside your family. Encourage a person in the community in the name of Christ. No one will hold you accountable, no one will force you to do these activities of encouragement. This is a simple ministry of encouragement that you are invited to be a part of. I believe it will enhance the fellowship of the church. The result of this work of encouragement will be interesting. I think at the end of 13 weeks, the attitude of many people will be different, - i.e. more positive, productive and exciting. Here is the challenge-lets be an encourager for the cause of Christ in our church and community. Love, Danny Don's Dabblings Don's Dabblings. Following delicious grilled chicken salad prepared by Susan Davidson, our Crusaders "C" team got busy writing 29 cards and notes, making 3 calls praying for 55 individuals, and making personal visits. Many thanks to Anne Singleton for her leadership with the "C" team. I realize that these are times when CARE team members cannot be present on the night their teams meet. Let me urge you to come another Tuesday night. We can surely use your help! In preparing last Sunday's Bible study, I realized that a major theme in Galatians is God's amazing grace. It is a well known fact that one is saved by grace through faith in Christ's finished work on the cross. Think of so many other benefits of God's grace: We are to live by grace, Note Paul's declaration in 1 Cor. 15:10 "But by the grace of God I am what I am: and His grace which was bestowed upon me was not in vain; but the grace of God which was with me." We stand in grace. It is the foundation for the Christian life. "Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: by whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God." (Romans 5:1-3 We derive strength from God's grace. "Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus' (2 Tim 2:1). Ruth and Hal Tooley have invited us to their lake home Tuesday, June 16. Lunch will be $3.00 each. If you have not signed up, please call Ruth at 877.5443.
